Physio-Pilates
What is Physio-Pilates?
Physio-Pilates is a unique form of physical exercise that focuses on posture, core stability, breathing, strength, and flexibility. It is often used to help rehabilitate the body after injury, particularly injuries of the pelvis, low back, or neck. Physio-Pilates is a treatment tool used by physiotherapists trained in Pilates, linking current spinal stability research and the traditional exercise rehabilitation and conditioning work of Joseph Pilates. It’s ideal for use in the rehabilitation setting, for general health and well-being, and as a preventive measure to avoid injury.
Your doctor, physiotherapist, osteopath, or other health care professional may recommend Physio-Pilates as part of your rehabilitation. Physio-Pilates differs from a regular Pilates class as it is based on an individual physiotherapy assessment and uses exercises that are adapted to make them more suitable for clients with low back and neck pain or those recovering from injury. At your initial consultation, your physiotherapist will conduct a full clinical assessment including health history, lifestyle, posture, movement analysis, and personal goals. An individualized program will be designed and will include exercises that can be done at home in between treatment sessions. Pilates exercises are done on a mat and often incorporate small equipment. All one on one Physio-Pilates sessions are billed as Physiotherapy.
You can benefit from Physio-Pilates if you:
- Have low back, neck or pelvic pain
- Have poor posture or a posture related injury
- Are recovering from childbirth
- Have pelvic floor dysfunction
- Want to improve core stability and muscle imbalances
- Want a safe therapeutic exercise program
- Want to prevent injury
- Want to enhance athletic performance
Fascial Stretch Therapy
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a complete system of stretching based on the most recent research and clinical findings on fascia. It is done by a certified therapist on a treatment table using comfortable straps to ensure the client is relaxed and supported.
FST mobilizes the joints in a gentle, pain free way, improving overall flexibility and decreasing muscle tension. It can improve movement patterns, posture, and circulation. FST is used not only by therapists to restore mobility after injury but also by athletes to maximize flexibility and athletic performance. Kelly Whitman is an experienced Level 2 Fascial Stretch Therapist. Fascial Stretch Therapy is part of your physiotherapy treatment plan and is billed as Physiotherapy.
